Who Needs Braces?
Braces are recommended for individuals who have dental misalignments or bite issues that affect their appearance, speech, or oral health. People with conditions such as crowded or crooked teeth, overbite (where the upper teeth overlap the lower teeth excessively), underbite (where the lower teeth extend beyond the upper teeth), crossbite (where teeth are misaligned sideways), open bite (where there is a gap between the upper and lower teeth when the mouth is closed), and excessive gaps between teeth may benefit from braces. These issues can lead to difficulties in chewing, speaking, and maintaining proper oral hygiene, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Orthodontic treatment with braces helps to align the teeth and jaw properly, improving both function and aesthetics while preventing long-term dental complications.
Braces Treatment Process
Step 1: Consultation & Diagnosis
- The orthodontist evaluates the teeth and jaw structure using X-rays, photographs, and impressions.
- A customized treatment plan is created.
Step 2: Application of Braces
- Brackets are bonded to teeth.
- Wires are inserted to apply pressure for gradual tooth movement.
Step 3: Regular Adjustments
- Every 4-6 weeks, the braces are adjusted to continue movement.
- Elastic bands may be used for bite correction.
Step 4: Removal of Braces
- Treatment duration varies (usually 12-36 months).
- Once teeth are aligned, braces are removed.
Step 5: Retainers
- After braces, retainers are worn to maintain the new position of teeth.
- Retainers can be removable or fixed behind the teeth.
